Principles
The Exitus Acta Probat operates according to these governance principles:
- Distributed Authority
- Transparent Process
- Evolutionary Design
- Purpose Alignment
- Balanced Input
Circles of Responsibility
Core Circle
The Core Circle consists of founding members and holds responsibility for:
- Strategic direction and vision maintenance
- Resource allocation and prioritization
- Membership structure and growth strategy
- Overall collective health and alignment with purpose
The Core Circle operates by consensus-seeking methods with fallback to supermajority voting when necessary. Members serve renewable two-year terms with staggered rotation to ensure continuity.
Domain Circles
Domain Circles form around specific areas of focus and are responsible for:
- Developing and maintaining expertise in their domain
- Leading initiatives and projects within their domain
- Advising the Core Circle on domain-specific matters
- Allocating resources assigned to their domain
Domain Circles self-organize according to their needs while maintaining alignment with collective principles. Each circle designates a representative to participate in inter-circle coordination.
Project Circles
Project Circles form around specific initiatives and are responsible for:
- Implementing projects with clear objectives and timelines
- Managing resources allocated to their project
- Reporting progress to relevant Domain Circles
- Documenting outcomes and learnings
Project Circles dissolve upon completion of their initiative, with members flowing to other projects.
Decision-Making Frameworks
Consent-Based Decisions
For operational and tactical decisions, we employ consent-based decision-making where:
- Proposals are made based on current understanding
- Decision-makers can object only on the basis that a proposal would harm the collective
- Absence of harmful objections constitutes consent to proceed
- Implementation includes clear review criteria and timelines
Participatory Strategic Decisions
For strategic decisions affecting collective direction, we use a participatory process that:
- Begins with broad input gathering from all membership circles
- Proceeds through proposal development by relevant circles
- Includes feedback rounds accessible to all members
- Concludes with Core Circle integration and decision
Conflict Resolution
When perspectives differ significantly, our resolution process includes:
- Direct dialogue between the perspectives with shared objectives
- Facilitated discussion if direct dialogue doesn't reach resolution
- Circle-level discernment if facilitation doesn't produce alignment
- Core Circle guidance as a final step when necessary
Evolutionary Mechanisms
To ensure our governance evolves with the collective:
- Annual governance review evaluates current structures against needs
- Any member can propose governance adjustments through a structured process
- Significant changes require broad participation and demonstrable improvement
- All governance documents remain accessible to members with change history
